Digitally signing files

When deploying an application, you can digitally sign each cabinet file to be downloaded, and the end user can then verify each digital signature when the file downloads. When end users download files prepared by you, they want to be absolutely sure that each file has:

Authenticity — Assurance that you prepared the file.
Integrity — Assurance that the file has not been tampered with.

To provide these assurances, you can digitally sign each file to be downloaded. If you do, WebClient requires the end user to verify the digital signature of each downloaded file.

Note: Progress Software Corporation strongly encourages the application deployer to digitally sign each file to be downloaded.
